Beware of the Google Forms Receipt Scam – [email protected]

It has come to our attention that a new scam is currently going on, in which people are receiving emails from “[email protected]” pretending to be official communications from Google.

Here’s how the scam works: you receive an email claiming that you had previously filled out an official form with Google, and are asked to fill out your email address and click a link to verify. The email may appear legitimate because it is from Google’s servers, but the contents of the form are actually not from Google. When you fill out the form and click the link, you may be directed to a page asking for personal information or other fraudulent attempts.

This scam is particularly concerning because the email receipts are an automatic feature of Google Forms, and the scammers are using Google’s own servers to carry out their scheme.

So, how can you protect yourself from this scam? Here are some tips:

  • Remember that just because you receive an email receipt doesn’t mean you requested one. Your email address could be entered into anything, and you may receive a signup email or a receipt confirming it. If you receive a receipt from Google Forms, remember that it should not be asking you for anything – no additional action via a link, and definitely not your personal information. A receipt is simply a record of previous actions, not a request for new ones.
  • If you receive an email that you are not sure is legitimate, do not click on any links or download any attachments. Instead, try to verify the authenticity of the email by contacting the sender directly through a different, trusted channel, or by checking the website of the company or service that the email claims to be from.
  • If you do receive an email from “[email protected]” that you suspect is a scam, you can report it to Google by clicking on the “Report Abuse” button at the bottom of the email. This will take you to a Google form where you can report fraudulent behavior.
  • Mark the email as spam and delete it in the spam folder. This will alert the spam filtering algorithm of the email service provider.
  • Be vigilant and only click on things that you can absolutely trust. Scammers are becoming more and more inventive, and you may receive emails from official sources that contain unofficial or fraudulent content.

It is important to stay safe and protect yourself from scams like this one. Remember to always be cautious when receiving emails from unfamiliar sources, and report any suspicious activity to the appropriate authorities.
